Development

NWHF has specialised in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in developing countries and how to make natural and cultural resources tools in sustainable local development.

NWHF works under the auspices of UNESCO to implement the mid and long-term strategies of UNESCO in developing countries and to improve the geographic and thematic representation on the World Heritage List. Our vision is to be an international centre assisting in the worldwide protection of natural and cultural heritage of outstanding universal value to mankind and for strengthening the link between heritage and development.

World Heritage issues are integrally linked with questions of sustainable development. The actions and decisions of people around the planet are becoming increasingly interdependent. This also affects the World Heritage Sites. By further realising the close linkage between heritage and development we face new challenges in developing standards for conservation that contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainability.
